Wickiup CG about 10 miles south of John Day and 8 miles up forest road 15 to the east of highway 395.
A very peaceful setting amidst large pines and small quaking aspens, on the banks of Canyon Cr. One other camper, who we never even heard, made for a very restful night, with the rushing water just outside the window. For horse people, there’s a somewhat rickety, but usable coral with good grazing, at least in the spring.

Yesterday, it was mostly showers with some pretty heavy rain in places. One of those, on the road from Paulina to here, was happening just as we passed through Izee, an intrigueing almost ghost town. I ‘d like to get there again for photos, but it was really pouring when we passed through. Before Pauling, there was a neat old building that we photographed, and as we were doing so, a car stopped and called to us. It was an older woman, doing postal delivery, by the name of Marlene. She told us it had been a stage stop, although abandoned for around 50 years. Nice stone chimney!
