A Favorite Playground, Photoshop!

Liquid Fire

I just love to play in Photoshop, just take an image and see what happens! A few years ago, we cleared all the fire danger type fuels from our property, removing ladder fuels and trees that were too close to the house. This resulted in several really large burn piles, and the flames were an interresting subject.

Recently, looking at the pictures, I wondered what would happen if……. So, I cut out a section of the best flames, mirrored it horizontally, then again, vertically. Then I went to work with the “Liquify” filter. Once I liked the result, I selected areas of flame, copied them onto a new layer, and used layer styles/bevel and emboss to give areas a 3d look.

It loses a lot in the small size here, but there’s great detail, almost fractal, in the full resolution image. I really had fun with this one!
