Levels adjustment layers on a black and white image

I put together a tutorial that’s mostly dependant on illustrations this time, using one of the images from my collection of historic railroad photos. The image was sharp and well composed, but lacked contrast and “snap” or eye catching appeal. By enhancing the sky a bit and bringing out the detail in the shadows, the photo looks much more balanced and grabs my eye, anyway!

Clicking on the image will open it in a separate window, full sized, so it’s more easily read.
